📰 4th Annual Merry Matchworks Holiday Show Brings Festive Shopping /and Giving Spirit

Sunday December 1 - 11am to 3pm
The Matchworks Building invites the community to celebrate the season at its 4th Annual Merry Matchworks Holiday Show, promising an even more exciting and festive experience this year. Scheduled to take place throughout the building, the event offers patrons a chance to shop unique handmade creations, enjoy seasonal treats, and contribute to a charitable cause.
With three floors of vendors, the show will feature an impressive selection of goods, including handcrafted ornaments, jewelry, specialty foods, ceramics, stained glass, and wooden items, all made by talented local artisans. Alongside shopping, guests can look forward to festive holiday music, a themed photo area, raffle opportunities, and refreshments, including seasonal drinks.
Local businesses in the Matchworks Building will offer exclusive deals, treats, and raffles for patrons exploring their shops. As a special incentive, the first 100 guests to arrive will receive a free gift.
While there’s a $2 suggested donation for entry, every dollar will benefit Sub Zero Mission, a nonprofit supporting veterans in need. Donations of warm clothing and essentials will also be accepted on-site, with a wishlist available on Sub Zero Mission’s website. Through the support of eventgoers, the show aims to spread warmth, joy, and a spirit of giving throughout the community.
📰 City of Mentor Opens Bids for 2024 Public Works Projects
The City of Mentor is accepting sealed bids for three significant public improvement projects scheduled for 2024. Proposals will be received at the Mentor City Purchasing Department, located at 8500 Civic Center Boulevard, until the specified times on November 15, 2024. Following each deadline, submissions will be opened and read immediately.
Project 1: Black Brook Golf Course Fairway Lawn Mower
Deadline for Submission: 11:30 AM, November 15, 2024.
The city seeks a vendor to supply a fairway lawn mower meeting project specifications. Detailed bid documents are available at the Purchasing Office, with a printing fee. Download Bid Set.
Project 2: Civic Center Recreation Waterslide Replacement
Deadline for Submission: 12:00 PM, November 15, 2024.
Budget Estimates: Base bid - $878,700; Alternate bid - $206,000.

Project 3: Concrete Repairs for Hamilton Drive, Mercantile Drive & Fire Station #1
Deadline for Submission: 11:00 AM, November 15, 2024.
Estimated Cost: $265,000; Completion Deadline: June 30, 2025.

🏈 Mentor Cardinals Outplay St. Ignatius Wildcats in Dominant 31-7 Playoff Win
The Mentor Cardinals delivered an impressive 31-7 victory over the St. Ignatius Wildcats in the first round of the 2024 OHSAA High School Playoffs. Mentor’s defense set the tone, repeatedly shutting down the Wildcats’ offense and creating opportunities for the Cardinals to shine. Mentor quarterback Scotty Fox opened the scoring with a 22-yard touchdown pass to Justen Hodge, putting Mentor up 7-0. Shortly afterward, Fox broke free on a spectacular 59-yard run for a touchdown, extending the Cardinals’ lead to 14-0 in the second quarter.
Fox continued to showcase his skills with a memorable play when he connected with Jackson Farley, who snagged a one-handed catch and then on the next play powered through defenders to reach the end zone, pushing Mentor’s lead to 21-0. St. Ignatius managed a touchdown just before halftime, but Mentor held a solid 21-7 advantage at the break. In the final quarter, Dylan Tackett booted a 43-yard field goal to put Mentor ahead 24-7, and Fox capped off the scoring with an 11-yard touchdown pass to Hodge, sealing the win at 31-7.
With this playoff victory, Mentor advances to face Strongsville in the Regional Quarterfinals on Friday November 8 @ 7pm.

🏈 Trinetti Leads Lake Catholic to Victory Over Ravenna in First Playoff Round
In a dominant display, the Lake Catholic Cougars defeated the Ravenna Ravens 42-14 in the opening round of the 2024 OHSAA High School Football Playoffs. The Cougars struck first in the first quarter with a 10-yard touchdown pass from quarterback Frankie Trinetti to Patrick Radigan. By the second quarter, Lake Catholic increased their lead when Jack Gogola intercepted a Ravenna pass and returned it 20 yards for a touchdown, putting the Cougars up 14-0. Just before halftime, Trinetti connected with Cross Nimmo for a 7-yard touchdown, sending the Cougars into the break with a 21-0 lead.
The second half began explosively for Lake Catholic as Nick Biondolillo returned the kickoff 77 yards for another touchdown, widening the gap to 28-0. The Cougars continued their scoring spree with a 7-yard rushing touchdown by Caden Boyes in the third quarter, putting the score at 35-0. Trinetti would throw for another TD pass on this night, this time to DJ Sears from 25 yards out, sealing the game. Ravenna managed to score two touchdowns in the 2nd half which provided the final score of 42-14.
Next up, Lake Catholic takes on Field (Mogadore, OH) on Friday November 8th in the Regional Quarterfinal.
