š° Gun Fired in Domestic Dispute Outside Riverview Elementary, No Injuries Reported
Riverview Elementary School in Painesville Township briefly went into lockdown on October 31 after a gunshot was fired in the school parking lot during a suspected domestic dispute. No students or staff were harmed, according to the Lake County Sheriffās Office.
The incident began around 9:10 a.m. when a male suspect allegedly crashed into another vehicle in the school parking area. Following a confrontation, the man fired a shot into the other carās windshield, away from the school.
The schoolās safety officer confronted and detained the suspect, identified as Alexander Sinclair, an off-duty Cleveland Police Officer. He was taken into custody and faces charges related to the incident, with an arraignment pending.
Chief Deputy Robert Izzo praised the safety officerās quick response, noting the officer sustained minor injuries while preventing further escalation. Additional law enforcement was on-site to secure the area and ensure student safety.
The district confirmed the situation posed no direct threat to students or staff, and nearby Auburn Career Center also briefly locked down as a precaution.

š Undefeated Mentor Faces Playoff Test Against St. Ignatius
Mentor vs. St. Ignatius
In a highly anticipated Division I, Region 1 playoff opener, St. Ignatius (1-9) is set to challenge top-seeded Mentor (10-0) at Jerome T. Osborne Stadium on November 1 at 7 p.m. This matchup marks a second encounter this season between the teams, with Mentor narrowly securing a 20-14 win in Week 2. Despite their dominant season, the Cardinals will be wary of St. Ignatius, who beat them twice last season and will be motivated to disrupt Mentorās perfect record.
Mentorās season has been defined by its potent offense, led by quarterback Scotty Fox, who has amassed 2,170 passing yards and 28 touchdowns, and running back Jackson Farley, who boasts 1,365 rushing yards and 19 touchdowns. The team cruised through much of the season, only facing competitive pressure from Cleveland Heights, whom they defeated by eight points. Last week, Mentor rolled over Euclid with a 51-14 win, powered by Foxās aerial skills and Farleyās ground-game prowess.
St. Ignatius, on the other hand, has faced a tough season, dropping their last seven games and ending with only one win, the programās lowest since 1947. The Wildcatsā season finale saw a narrow 27-26 loss to Football North, with quarterback Dane Donovan connecting for touchdowns to Cory Haddad and Gavon Vollmer and Luke Sims adding a rushing score.
The stakes are high for both teams, as the winner will advance to face either Strongsville or Cleveland Heights in the next playoff round. Mentor enters as the heavy favorite, but St. Ignatius could channel last yearās success to try and turn the tide in this postseason battle.
š Playoff Showdown: Lake Catholic Hosts Ravenna in High-Stakes Opener
Lake Catholic v. Ravenna
Top-seeded Lake Catholic (10-0) will face off against 16th-seeded Ravenna (4-6) in the Division IV, Region 13 playoff opener on November 1 at Nick Carter Stadium in Eastlake. Lake Catholic, undefeated for the first time since 1996 and ranked first in the Division IV Associated Press poll, aims to extend its stellar season and make a serious push for the state title.
Led by standout quarterback Frankie Trinetti, who has accumulated 2,256 passing yards and 22 touchdowns, the Cougars boast a balanced offense and strong defensive presence. Key receivers include Ace Peterlin, Cross Nimmo, Patrick Radigan, DJ Sears, and Jimmy Gibbons, each contributing significantly to the Cougarsā success. Gibbons has also been crucial to the Cougarsā ground game, with 816 rushing yards and 10 touchdowns, and has led the defense with 12 tackles for loss (TFLs). Defenders Jayson Cummings and Marty Loncar have kept the Cougarsā line tough, adding sacks and TFLs that reinforce their reputation as a top-ranked squad.
Ravenna, despite a rocky season, found form in recent weeks, winning three of its last five games to secure a playoff spot. Quarterback C.J. Ross, receiver and defensive back Bryant Thompson, and tight end/defensive lineman Robert Melzer will be key players for the Ravens as they look to pull off an upset. The winner of this game will move on to face the victor between Lutheran East and Mogadore Field in the next round.
š Mentor Volleyball Falls to St. Joseph in Regional Semifinals, Ending Season
Mentorās volleyball season ended in a Division I regional semifinal loss to St. Joseph Academy, who swept the Cardinals 25-17, 25-15, 25-13. Mentorās inventive preparations, including practicing with the boys' team, couldnāt stave off the Jaguars' dominant offensive led by setter Belle Groomes.
In the match, Mentor showed early promise, staying competitive in the first two sets but ultimately couldnāt contain St. Josephās momentum. Key moments, like a kill by Groomes when Mentor trailed 9-8 in the first set, created insurmountable gaps. Despite a few strong plays from Mentorās Maeli Milo, Anna Cassidy, Kayden McKinney, Claire Kovell, and Melody Garrett, the team struggled to sustain an offensive counter.
While emotions ran high as the teamās seniors took the court together for the last time, Mentorās Coach Samantha Weaver expressed pride in the Cardinalsā achievements this season, including securing a Greater Cleveland Conference title and a district championship. With a youthful lineup poised to gain more experience, she is hopeful for a deeper playoff run next season.
