🛣️ Cincinnati Weekend Guide: From Underground Railroad to Brewery District

Courtesy: dangerous-business.com - John A Roebling Suspension Bridge

Cincinnati, Ohio, situated at the confluence of the Licking and Ohio rivers, offers visitors a perfect blend of historical significance and modern attractions. Once known as "The Queen City" during its mid-1800s prosperity, Cincinnati continues to reinvent itself while honoring its rich heritage.

Here are the must-do activities for a two-day visit:

Historical Exploration:

The National Underground Railroad Freedom Center stands as a testament to Cincinnati's crucial role in the Civil War era. Located downtown along the river, this museum not only chronicles the Underground Railroad but also addresses contemporary freedom struggles worldwide.

Over-the-Rhine District This historic neighborhood showcases Cincinnati's German heritage. Visit Findlay Market, the city's oldest public market (established 1852), for fresh produce, meats, and pastries. The area's Brewery District features numerous craft breweries, including Rhinegeist Brewery and Taft's Ale House, housed in an 1850s church.

Unique Attractions:

The American Sign Museum offers a fascinating journey through five decades of sign-making history, from early 1900s gold leaf to 1950s plastic signs. The museum includes a working neon shop and recreated 1950s main street.

Don't miss the John A. Roebling Suspension Bridge, designed by the same engineer as the Brooklyn Bridge. Completed in 1867, it was once the world's longest suspension bridge.

Art and Culture:

Thanks to ArtWorks, Cincinnati's streets are adorned with vibrant murals, with plans to create one in each of the city's 52 neighborhoods. Walking tours are available on weekends.

Where to Stay Downtown:

Options include the historic Hampton Inn & Suites Cincinnati-Downtown, housed in the former Cincinnati Enquirer building. For budget-friendly alternatives, consider staying across the river at Aloft Newport on the Levee in Kentucky.

Extra Day If time permits:

Venture north to Butler County to experience the unique Donut Trail, featuring 13 family-owned shops, or visit Jungle Jim's, a 6-acre international food market that's more attraction than grocery store.

This vibrant city, just hours from major Midwestern destinations like Cleveland, Indianapolis, and Louisville, offers enough attractions to fill a weekend with both historical insights and modern entertainment.

⚾ Yankees Win AL Pennant After Extra-Innings Thriller Against Guardians

The New York Yankees are heading to the World Series for the first time in 15 years, following a dramatic 5-2 extra-innings victory over the Cleveland Guardians in Game 5 of the American League Championship Series. Juan Soto's crucial home run in the 10th inning broke the 2-2 tie, securing the Yankees' first AL pennant since 2009. The Yankees will now face either the Los Angeles Dodgers or the New York Mets in the World Series, with the Dodgers currently holding a 3-2 series lead in the National League Championship Series.

Cleveland initially took the lead with runs from Josh and Bo Naylor in the second inning, followed by Steven Kwan's RBI single in the fifth. However, Giancarlo Stanton tied the game with a two-run homer in the sixth, his fourth of the series. With the game locked after nine innings, Soto's powerful home run off Hunter Gaddis shifted momentum for the Yankees, who then closed the game with three quick outs in the bottom of the 10th.

This victory marks the Yankees’ 41st American League title, and they’ll aim to capture their 28th World Series championship. Their last appearance in the Fall Classic was in 2009 when they defeated the Philadelphia Phillies.
