☔ Lake-Effect Showers and Cooler Temperatures Hit Northern Ohio, Impacting Commuters

Northern Ohio residents should brace for a wet start to the week, as lake-effect rain showers are set to persist through midweek, affecting Cleveland and areas along the I-90 corridor. Cooler temperatures will accompany the showers, with daytime highs dropping into the 40s and 50s, according to the National Weather Service.

Commuters on I-90 should expect slick conditions as showers, and possible thunderstorms, continue into Wednesday. The heaviest rainfall is likely to occur in the snowbelt areas of northeast Ohio and northwest Pennsylvania.

On Columbus Day, temperatures are expected to peak at around 53°F, with wind gusts reaching 18 mph. Showers will persist through the night, bringing lows in the 40s. By Wednesday, rain will begin to taper off, though cloudy skies and cool temperatures will remain. Travelers should be cautious as wet roads and reduced visibility may create hazardous conditions.

Thursday promises some relief with sunny skies and temperatures returning to the upper 50s, but until then, residents are encouraged to stay informed of any weather updates and prepare for delays due to rain.

📰 Ohio Allocates $23 Million to Boost Urban Transit Services Across the State

The Ohio Department of Transportation (ODOT) announced a major funding boost for urban transit systems across the state. More than $23 million in state funds will be distributed among 26 urban transit agencies through ODOT’s Urban Transit Program. Lake County will receive nearly $1M. The funds are aimed at supporting transit fleet expansion, replacing vehicles, performing preventative maintenance, upgrading facilities, investing in new equipment and technology, and providing operational assistance.

The funding ensures continued access for the hundreds of thousands of Ohioans who rely on these services daily. ODOT Director Pamela Boratyn echoed these sentiments, highlighting the agency’s commitment to an accessible, equitable, and future-focused transportation system.

The funding, which comes from Ohio’s general revenue fund, is part of ODOT’s ongoing efforts to improve the quality of life for residents by enhancing public transportation.

📈 Mortgage Rates Continue to Climb, Closing Week Higher

Mortgage rates rose again on Friday, with the average 30-year fixed mortgage reaching 6.567%. Other loan types, including 20-, 15-, and 10-year fixed loans, also saw increases. However, 5/1 adjustable-rate mortgages decreased slightly. Market forces, such as rising Treasury yields and stronger stock markets, contributed to the higher rates, while falling oil prices and rising gold prices had a minor easing effect. Overall, the mortgage market remains volatile heading into the weekend.

🏈 Cleveland's Struggles Continue: Browns Drop to 1-5 After 20-16 Loss to Eagles

The Cleveland Browns dropped their fourth consecutive game on Sunday, losing 20-16 to the Philadelphia Eagles, which brought their record to a disappointing 1-5. Quarterback Deshaun Watson completed 16 of 23 passes for 168 yards but was under heavy pressure throughout the game, getting sacked five times for a 24-yard loss. Despite a first-half touchdown from safety Rodney McLeod Jr., who returned a blocked field goal by defensive end Myles Garrett, the Browns’ offense struggled to generate momentum.

Cleveland’s offensive troubles were compounded by early injuries, with center Nick Harris exiting on their first drive and running back Jerome Ford sidelined shortly after with a hamstring issue. The Browns managed just 71 yards in the first half but tied the game at halftime thanks to McLeod's touchdown.

In the second half, the Browns had several chances to score but were hampered by penalties and missed opportunities. Their final drive stalled near the goal line, forcing them to settle for a field goal instead of a potential game-tying touchdown. The Eagles sealed the victory with a 45-yard touchdown by DeVonta Smith and a deep pass to A.J. Brown late in the fourth quarter that ran out the clock.

Now in last place in the AFC North, the Browns will return home next week to face the Cincinnati Bengals, another struggling division rival.
