🚏 Free Rides Offered to Lake County Voters Through Laketran’s Vote & Ride Program

Laketran Vote & Ride Program

Lake County residents can take advantage of free public transportation to vote in the upcoming November general election, thanks to Laketran’s Vote & Ride program. Laketran is offering complimentary rides on its Local Routes 1-9, as well as its Dial-a-Ride service, to help voters reach early voting locations or polling stations on Election Day.

Those looking to vote early can use the free transportation to reach the Lake County Board of Elections at 105 Main Street in Painesville. Early voting is available from October 8 through November 3. On Election Day, November 5, polling locations throughout Lake County will be open from 6:30 a.m. to 7:30 p.m., though the Board of Elections will not serve as a polling place that day.

Laketran CEO Ben Capelle emphasized the importance of accessibility, stating that transportation should not be a barrier to voting, and the company is dedicated to helping residents participate in the election process, whether they vote early or on Election Day.

Voters who use Laketran’s Local Routes can simply inform the bus driver that they are heading to vote or have just voted, and their ride will be free. Those needing door-to-door service can schedule a free Dial-a-Ride by calling Laketran Customer Service at 440-354-6100. Reservations for this service must be made between 1 and 12 business days in making a reservation between 1 to 12 business days in advance. Dial-a-Ride can be used for both early voting trips and rides to polling locations on Election Day at no cost. To arrange a ride, residents can contact Laketran Customer Service at 440-354-6100.

For details on early voting hours or to find your designated polling place, you can reach the Lake County Board of Elections at 440-350-2700 or visit their official website at https://www.lakecountyohio.gov/boe/.

📰 $4.4M in Grants to Fund Demolition, Clean-Up, and Job Creation in Mentor and Willoughby

Over $4.4 million in grant funding has been secured for two revitalization projects in Ohio House District 23 through the Ohio Department of Development’s Brownfield Remediation Program.

The majority of the funding, $4.3 million, will be allocated to the Lake County Land Bank for a site in Old Mentor Village Uptown. This project includes demolishing three vacant, deteriorating structures and addressing underground contamination. A new 55,000-square-foot mixed-use building is planned for the site, which will create 90 new jobs once completed.

Additionally, $110,000 will be used for an environmental assessment of a former Sunoco station on Lost Nation Road in Willoughby. This project will focus on clearing contamination, particularly affecting the nearby Chagrin River, and preparing the site for future redevelopment.

Local officials emphasized the need to revitalize neglected areas instead of focusing solely on new developments, which consume green space and require new infrastructure. The Ohio Brownfield Remediation Program, which has awarded nearly $470 million since its launch, continues to support similar projects throughout the state.

🐶 The Truth About Pet Bathing: Are You Doing It Too Much or Too Little?

How Often Should You Bathe Your Pet?

The question of how often to bathe your pet isn't one-size-fits-all. Different animals have different needs, and several factors influence the ideal bathing frequency for your furry friend.

For dogs, the general rule of thumb varies by breed, lifestyle, and coat type. Short-haired breeds might only need a bath every three months, while dogs with oily coats, like Basset Hounds, may require weekly washing. Active dogs who frequently play outdoors might need monthly baths to stay clean and fresh.

Cats are generally self-cleaning animals, and most healthy indoor cats rarely need baths. Their rough tongues are natural grooming tools that keep their fur clean. However, outdoor cats, elderly cats who struggle with self-grooming, or cats who get into messy situations might need occasional baths.

Signs that your pet needs a bath include:

  • Noticeable dirt or mud in their coat

  • Unpleasant odor

  • Visible skin problems

  • Excessive scratching

  • Oily or greasy fur

However, over-bathing can be just as problematic as under-bathing. Too frequent washing can strip natural oils from your pet's coat and skin, leading to dryness, irritation, and other skin issues. Always use pet-specific shampoos, as human products can disrupt their skin's pH balance.

When in doubt, consult your veterinarian for a personalized bathing schedule. They can consider your pet's specific needs, including any skin conditions or health issues that might affect bathing frequency. Remember that regular brushing between baths is essential for maintaining your pet's coat health and reducing the need for frequent washing.

⚾ Guardians on the Brink: Do-or-Die Game 4 Looms After Shutout Loss

The Cleveland Guardians face a do-or-die situation after a 3-0 loss to the Detroit Tigers in Game 3 of the American League Division Series, putting them on the brink of elimination. The team, which has been defying expectations all season, now must win Game 4 to keep their postseason hopes alive. They entered the year with doubters predicting struggles, especially under a first-time manager, but their determination led them to the playoffs despite the odds.

After a strong start in Game 1, Cleveland’s bats fell silent in the next two matchups, marking the first time in franchise history they’ve been shut out in consecutive playoff games. With 20 scoreless innings hanging over them, the Guardians aim to break the trend in Game 4, where their ace, Tanner Bibee, will take the mound.

Though the Tigers have the momentum and history is against Cleveland—who have lost 11 straight elimination games since 1997—the Guardians have been resilient all season. They’ll need that same grit to stave off elimination and force a Game 5.
