Industrial Market Shows Continued Strength in Q3 2024

The Greater Cleveland industrial real estate market demonstrated continued strength through the third quarter of 2024, according to the latest CoStar market report. The eight-county region, encompassing 453 million square feet of industrial space, posted a vacancy rate of just 3.1% - a 0.3% improvement from the previous quarter.

Lake County's industrial market, featuring 40 million square feet across 1,348 buildings, performed particularly well with a vacancy rate of only 2.1%. This represents positive momentum with a 0.2% decrease from Q2 2024 and a 0.4% improvement year-over-year.

The City of Mentor, housing 14 million square feet or 35% of Lake County's industrial space, maintains its position as a key market driver. While Mentor's vacancy rate showed a slight uptick to 1.6% from 1.3% in Q2, it remains well below the regional average and improved from 2.0% one year ago.

Currently, Mentor's largest available industrial spaces include facilities on Tyler Boulevard (170,340 and 112,594 square feet) and East Avenue (73,550 square feet), offering opportunities for businesses seeking strategic locations in this thriving market.

๐Ÿ—‘๏ธ Great Lakes Plastic Crisis: How We Can Turn the Tide

City of Mentor

A staggering 22 million pounds of plastic waste flows into the Great Lakes annually, making up 90% of beach litter, according to the Rochester Institute of Technology. This environmental crisis affects all forms of life in our ecosystem, from the smallest to the largest.

In Ohio, wildlife regularly falls victim to entanglement in fishing lines, nets, and landscape mesh. Even more concerning is the presence of microplastics โ€“ tiny plastic fragments smaller than 5mm โ€“ which have been discovered in the digestive systems of birds, fish, mammals, and humans. These microscopic threats often originate from unexpected sources, such as synthetic fibers shed from our everyday clothing like fleece jackets and other polypropylene materials.

The scope of plastic pollution can seem overwhelming, but solutions are within our reach. By making conscious choices in our daily lives, we can significantly reduce plastic waste. Simple actions like:

  • Choosing reusable shopping bags

  • Carrying refillable water bottles

  • Avoiding single-use plastics

  • Supporting businesses that use sustainable packaging

These small changes, when adopted by communities, create meaningful impact. The path to cleaner lakes and healthier ecosystems begins with individual choices that ripple outward to influence broader waste management practices and environmental policies.

Together, we can shift away from our throwaway culture and embrace sustainable alternatives. The future of our Great Lakes โ€“ and the countless species that depend on them โ€“ rests in our hands. Every reusable item we choose and every piece of plastic we decline brings us closer to a cleaner, healthier environment for all.

Falling for Atlantic City: Your Perfect Autumn Escape Guide

Who says Atlantic City is just for summer? This fall, New Jersey's playground by the sea offers a jackpot of experiences without the sweltering crowds and sandbox-hot beach temps. Pack your favorite sweater (and maybe your lucky socks) for a weekend that promises more than just casino hopping.

The iconic Boardwalk transforms into an autumn paradise, where the crisp Atlantic breeze carries the scent of saltwater taffy and fresh-baked treats. Starting in October 2024, visitors can enjoy the new "Fall on the Boards" festival, featuring local craft vendors, seasonal food pop-ups, and live entertainment every weekend.

For the culinary adventurer, fall brings the best of both worlds. Score off-season deals at world-class restaurants like Gordon Ramsay Steak and Buddakan, or warm up with a bowl of authentic New England clam chowder at Dock's Oyster House, a local institution since 1897. Pro tip: The wait times for these hotspots drop significantly compared to summer months.

Beyond the bright lights of the casinos, autumn activities abound. Take a sunset cruise around Absecon Island โ€“ the colors are spectacular, and rates are lower than peak season. The nearby Absecon Lighthouse offers haunted tours throughout October, combining history with seasonal spooks. For shopping enthusiasts, the Tanger Outlets become a treasure trove of pre-holiday sales.

Accommodation wise, even luxury hotels like the Borgata and Hard Rock offer attractive fall packages. Book midweek for the best deals, with rates often 30-40% lower than summer prices. Many properties throw in dining credits or spa vouchers to sweeten the deal.

Weather-wise, pack layers. Atlantic City autumns can range from beach-worthy 70s to jacket-required 50s. But that's part of the charm โ€“ you might need a scarf for your morning Boardwalk stroll and sunglasses for your afternoon casino break.

Whether you're testing your luck at the tables, sampling seasonal cocktails at one of the rooftop bars, or simply soaking in the peaceful off-season beach vibes, Atlantic City in fall 2024 offers a perfect blend of excitement and relaxation. Just remember: the only thing more golden than your winning streak might be the autumn sunset over the Atlantic.

โšพ Guardians Dominate Tigers in ALDS Opener with Historic First Inning

The Cleveland Guardians showed no signs of rust from their bye week, demolishing the Detroit Tigers 7-0 in Game 1 of the American League Division Series on Saturday at Progressive Field.

The Guardians made history in the first inning, becoming only the second team in MLB playoff history to score five runs before recording an out. The explosive start was highlighted by Lane Thomas's three-run homer into the left-field bleachers.

Tigers opener Tyler Holton faced just four batters before being pulled, joining a rare group of only 11 pitchers in AL/NL history who failed to record an out in a postseason start.

Cleveland's preparation during their break proved effective, as they had created game-like conditions with crowd noise and competitive simulated games. Steven Kwan set the tone with a leadoff double, and the Guardians never looked back.

The victory puts Cleveland in a strong position heading into Game 2, scheduled for Monday at 4 p.m. ET. The Guardians' comprehensive performance suggests they're well-prepared for a deep playoff run.

๐Ÿˆ Browns Face Red-Hot Commanders in Critical Sunday Matchup

The Cleveland Browns face a formidable challenge this Sunday as they take on the surging Washington Commanders, led by rookie sensation Jayden Daniels. The Commanders' offense has been turning heads, ranking third in run rate across the NFL, with Daniels showing remarkable efficiency in his last three games, completing an impressive 85% of his passes for 713 yards and three touchdowns.

While the Browns boast the strongest defense the Commanders will face this season, Cleveland's unit has shown vulnerability to edge runs and boundary plays. This weakness could prove crucial against Daniels, who has already amassed 218 rushing yards and four touchdowns this season.

On the offensive side, the Browns may receive a boost with potential returns of David Njoku and offensive linemen Jedrick Wills and Jack Conklin. Despite a stronger showing last week, quarterback Deshaun Watson and the offense must find ways to consistently put points on the board against Washington's 27th-ranked defense.

The key to victory for Cleveland lies in forcing rookie mistakes from Daniels while capitalizing on the Commanders' defensive vulnerabilities. Though Washington enters as favorites, the Browns have the defensive prowess and offensive potential to secure a win if they can execute their gameplan effectively.
