👮 Lake Catholic Hosts Annual Blue and Red Mass, Honoring First Responders

Lake Catholic High School came together for their annual Blue and Red Mass, a tradition honoring and praying for the well-being of first responders. The event was a heartfelt occasion where students, staff, and local responders united in prayer, showing appreciation for those who serve the community.

A special moment during the Mass included Father’s blessing of both the attendees and their vehicles, symbolizing protection and guidance for first responders in their duties. Adding a touch of lightheartedness to the ceremony outside, a chipmunk unexpectedly appeared, charming everyone as it joined the gathering.

The school extended their gratitude to those who participated, and responders expressed their thanks to Lake Catholic High School for including them in this meaningful tradition.

🏈 Undefeated Mentor Cardinals Take on Shaker Heights in Conference Showdown

A Greater Cleveland Conference showdown is set for October 4 at Russell H. Rupp Field in Shaker Heights, where the undefeated Mentor Cardinals (6-0) will face the struggling Shaker Heights Red Raiders (2-4) at 7 p.m.

Mentor, ranked as the top Division I team in Ohio and leading the Division I, Region 1 computer ratings, has been dominant this season. The Cardinals are coming off a 47-21 victory over River Rouge, continuing their impressive offensive performance, which has averaged 45.3 points per game over the past month. Quarterback Scotty Fox, a West Virginia recruit, threw for 178 yards and three touchdowns in their last game, while running back Jackson Farley rushed for 141 yards, bringing him closer to a 1,000-yard season. Mentor’s deep receiving corps, featuring Justen Hodge, Austen Van Huss, Grant Cerny, Dominic Baroni, and Marcus Sierputowski, will look to keep the momentum going.

Shaker Heights, on the other hand, has struggled since their 2-0 season start, losing four straight games. Their most recent defeat came at the hands of Brunswick, 35-3. Running back Cornell Beard has been a key player for the Red Raiders, but they will need more from both sides of the ball to stand a chance against Mentor’s high-powered offense. Shaker’s offense has only managed 41 points in their last four games, and their defense faces the daunting task of trying to slow down one of the state's most potent offenses.

🏈 Undefeated Lake Catholic Set to Test Padua in Non-Conference Battle

Padua and Lake Catholic are set to face off in a non-conference football game on October 4 at 7 p.m. at Jerome T. Osborne Stadium. While official North Coast Conference play begins next year, this matchup could easily be seen as a preview of future league contenders. Both teams bring impressive records to the field, with Lake Catholic sitting at 6-0 and Padua at 4-2.

Lake Catholic enters the game ranked first in Division IV, Region 13, following a dominant 35-3 victory over Holy Name last week. The Cougars’ defense has been formidable, posting three shutouts this season and only allowing one team to score in double digits. Anchored by linebackers Luke Joy, Marty Loncar, and Jimmy Gibbons, and led by lineman Danny Zmorowski, this defense is tough to break through. Offensively, quarterback Frankie Trinetti is coming off a strong performance, throwing for 265 yards and three touchdowns in the last game. Wide receiver Ace Peterlin set a school record with 13 catches for 170 yards and three scores, while Jimmy Gibbons adds strength to their run game.

Padua has won two straight, including a 35-28 victory over North Royalton last week, powered by running back Roderick Love, who rushed for 257 yards and four touchdowns. The Bruins are ranked eighth in Division III, Region 10, and will be looking to test Lake Catholic's stout defense as they fight for computer points and future conference bragging rights.
