🎠Ohio Fairs Boost Security to Ensure Safe, Family-Friendly Atmosphere

Fair season is in full swing across Ohio, but visitors might notice an increased security presence along with the usual attractions of fried food, rides, and livestock.

At the Summit County Fair, running through Sunday, officials have heightened security measures. Howard Call, a spokesperson for the fairgrounds, noted that additional security personnel have been deployed at the gates and throughout the grounds. Bag checks are also being conducted to ensure a safe, family-friendly environment.

This decision follows a recent large fight at the Trumbull County Fairgrounds and a shooting at a festival in Macedonia. “We want people to come to the Summit County Fair and feel safe and not have to worry about rowdyism,” Call explained.

The fair has also implemented comprehensive safety plans, including protocols for active shooter situations, lost children, and fires. All board directors, on-duty sheriffs, and fire department personnel are connected via a communication channel to respond swiftly to any incidents.

Similarly, the Lake County Fair, also running through Sunday, has boosted its security. Wade Crofoot, president of the Lake County Fairgrounds board, mentioned that they have undergone training with the sheriff’s department to prepare for any potential issues. “The fairgrounds are fenced in and in a controlled area,” Crofoot assured. “We are prepared the best we can be.”

In Columbus, the Ohio State Fair has introduced a new policy requiring minors to be accompanied by an adult after 2 p.m. This change follows similar measures at other events and aims to enhance safety. Adam Heffron, the state fairgrounds executive director, noted the positive impact of such policies based on previous experiences.

📰 Concord Township Explores Future Uses for Former Quail Hollow Resort

Quail Hollow

Concord Township officials were presented with redevelopment options for the closed Quail Hollow Resort by Silverlode Consulting. The property faces significant structural and market challenges, making reopening as a hotel unlikely. Potential new uses include light industry and residential housing. High asking prices and demolition costs are major obstacles. The township plans to explore state funding and incentives for developers. The resort, managed by Quay Hospitality and owned by a New Zealand investment group, struggled before and during the pandemic, making rehabilitation financially impractical.

🚨Accidental Siren Trigger at Perry Nuclear Plant Causes Panic

Emergency alarms blared unexpectedly at the Perry Nuclear Power Plant in Ashtabula County on Wednesday, causing concern among residents. According to a Facebook post from the Emergency Management Agency (EMA), the alarms were accidentally set off by a repair technician working on the emergency notification system.

The EMA’s post prompted worried comments from neighbors, with many expressing their fear over the incident. However, the EMA quickly apologized and reassured the community that there was no emergency situation.

The sirens, which cover a large area including Geneva-On-The-Lake, Geneva Township, the City of Geneva, and Harperfield Township, are part of the plant's 10-mile emergency planning zone. This zone includes designated evacuation routes to be used in the event of a real emergency.

Báez's Homer Lifts Tigers Over Guardians in Shutout Victory

Javier Báez hit a crucial three-run homer in the second inning, leading the Detroit Tigers to a 3-0 win over the AL Central-leading Cleveland Guardians on Thursday. This marked Báez's first home run since April 14, a 409-foot shot into the left-field bleachers, lifting his batting average to .180. Báez, batting ninth, expressed his relief and determination to improve his performance for the team.

The Guardians, who boast the best home record in the AL at 33-15, suffered their eighth loss in twelve games, reducing their lead in the Central to 4.5 games over Minnesota. This was their fourth shutout in ten games, adding to their recent struggles.

Cleveland manager Stephen Vogt remained optimistic despite the slump, emphasizing the need for the team to stay relaxed and true to themselves.

Easton Lucas secured his first major league win with two perfect innings of relief, while Shelby Miller earned his second save. The Tigers' bullpen, including Tyler Holton, Alex Faedo, Jason Foley, and Andrew Chafin, combined efforts for a four-hitter.

Bligh Madris and Jake Rogers scored on Báez’s homer off Guardians starter Gavin Williams, who, despite throwing a career-high 105 pitches and striking out nine, suffered his third home loss. Holton, making his second start of the series, pitched two innings before Lucas took over.

Steven Kwan of the Guardians went 0 for 4, dropping his average to .341 and losing the major league batting lead to Kansas City's Bobby Witt Jr. at .344.

In other news, Guardians prospect Travis Bazzana, the top pick in the MLB amateur draft, is set to make his professional debut Friday for Single-A Lake County after signing his first professional contract on July 19.
