📰 Mentor High’s Nick Samac Eyes NFL Draft Amid Recovery and Community Support

The Mentor High School football program, renowned for its success in Division I in Ohio, has seen five of its former players get drafted into the NFL. Michigan State center Nick Samac aims to be the next, hoping to increase that count to six during this weekend's draft. The list of Mentor alumni includes notable NFL players like quarterback Mitchell Trubisky, who was picked second overall by the Chicago Bears in 2016. Other draftees are offensive lineman Bob Hallen and lineman Tom Barndt, along with the Ryczek brothers, Paul and Dan, both centers who played at the University of Virginia in the early 1970s. Samac, who graduated from Mentor in 2019, has overcome significant challenges, including a broken fibula at the end of his last season, to reach his current position as a prospective NFL draft pick. Despite varying predictions about his draft status, ranging from late-round pick to potentially undrafted, Samac remains hopeful and grateful for the support from his community.
