šŸ“°Ā Ohioā€™s Roads Get a $10 Million Cleanup Boost from ODOT This Earth Day

The Ohio Department of Transportation (ODOT) is investing $10 million this year to maintain the cleanliness of the state's roadways, coinciding with Earth Day celebrations. Throughout 2024, ODOT crews have already collected over 89,000 bags of trash. This effort is bolstered by the participation of the state's 1,400 Adopt-A-Highway groups, which include dedicated community members and organizations volunteering to clean up various highway sections.

Among the volunteers, Diane Bovee from the First Universalist Church in Lyons led a cleanup along State Route 120, highlighting her group's longstanding commitment to the initiative. Similarly, the Columbus Grove Lions Club, active since 1991, continued its efforts in Putnam County, driven by community pride and a commitment to volunteerism.

ODOT supports these groups by providing essential supplies like vests and trash bags and requiring a minimum of four cleanup sessions annually. Additionally, other organizations like the Ohio Department of Rehabilitation and Corrections and the Center for Employment Opportunities have made significant contributions to roadside cleanliness, collectively gathering tens of thousands of trash bags since the start of the year.

ā›½ Akron and Cleveland Drivers Face Sharp Increase in Gas Prices

Gas prices in Northeast Ohio have seen a sharp increase, with Akron and Cleveland both reaching an average of $3.64 per gallon, mirroring the national average. Factors influencing these rates include the shift to summer gasoline, refinery maintenance, and recent geopolitical events. However, experts predict that prices may start to decline as refinery operations normalize and global tensions ease.

šŸ  Simple Steps to Diagnose and Repair Your Air Conditioning System

Air conditioning and HVAC units are essential, especially during peak summer heat. However, they don't last forever; the average lifespan is about 12 years, and they often fail just when you need them the most. Luckily, not all malfunctions mean the end of your AC unit. Sometimes, a simple fix can get your system back up and running.

Hereā€™s a quick guide to help you address some common air conditioner issues:

  1. AC Won't Turn On
Possible cause: It could be something as simple as incorrect thermostat settings or a tripped fuse.
The fix: Ensure the thermostat is set to AC or "cool" mode and check that the temperature setting is correct and the batteries are fresh. Also, check your homeā€™s circuit breaker.

  2. Reduced Cooling Efficiency
Possible cause: Poor airflow could be the culprit.
The fix: Change the air filter regularly, maintain clearances around your outdoor unit, and ensure no obstructions are blocking cold air returns and registers.

  3. High Utility Bills
Possible cause: This could indicate inefficient operation, often due to a dirty filter or a clogged condensing coil.
The fix: Schedule a professional tune-up to address and maintain critical components.
