🚨 String of Vehicle Break-Ins Strikes Mentor, Surrounding Areas

In a recent spate of thefts, Mentor Police have reported at least 15 vehicle break-ins at the Mentor Square Apartments. According to a memo addressed to the Mentor City Council, these incidents occurred in the early hours of April 9. The thieves targeted vehicles, smashing windows and stealing personal items from inside.

Similar criminal activity was also reported at the Hallwood Manor Apartments, where two additional vehicles suffered the same fate - smashed windows and stolen goods.

The memo further revealed that neighboring cities, represented by Willoughby Police and Eastlake Police, experienced similar thefts around the same timeframe, indicating a potential pattern or linked series of crimes across the region.

Mentor Police detectives are currently investigating the series of break-ins, hoping to identify and apprehend the perpetrators responsible for this surge in vehicular thefts.

🏘️ Home Repair: When to DIY and When to Call an Expert

When embarking on home improvement projects, homeowners often face the dilemma of whether to hire a professional or attempt a do-it-yourself (DIY) approach. The cost of professional labor can significantly impact a homeowner's budget, leading many to opt for DIY to save money. However, lack of skill and preparation in handling home repairs can result in higher costs than hiring a professional.

Professionals recommend that simple tasks like re-grouting tile, patching drywall, installing floating shelves, and painting can generally be done by homeowners who are comfortable with DIY projects. These tasks require minimal specialized skills and tools. For instance, re-grouting requires choosing the right type of grout and a careful application, while painting a room involves straightforward steps if the right materials are available.

On the other hand, more complex projects such as hanging wallpaper, removing popcorn ceilings, and major electrical or plumbing works are better left to professionals. These tasks require not only specific tools and materials but also expertise to ensure safety and quality outcomes. For example, removing popcorn ceilings is a labor-intensive process that involves potential health risks and requires precision.

Furthermore, tasks that might appear simple, like fixing a running toilet or a clogged garbage disposal, can be DIY-ed if the homeowner is knowledgeable and has the necessary tools.

Read the article in the link below and see 20 home repairs and their recommendation on if that repair should be “Hire a Pro” or “Try a DIY”. ReadSimple.com
