📰 Impaired Driving Incident Leads to Mentor Bus Driver's Termination

A school bus driver from Mentor has been terminated from her position following accusations of operating the bus under the influence of alcohol. The incident came to light when Mentor Public Schools contacted local police after receiving a report concerning the driver's alcohol use. Upon their arrival, police discovered the driver had already been dismissed from her duties and escorted home by the school's administration.

Superintendent Craig Heath of Mentor Public Schools promptly informed parents of the situation through a letter. He explained that the driver of Bus #60, Route #1, exhibited signs of impairment, which did not go unnoticed by a district employee. Despite quick action by the transportation supervisor, the driver had completed her morning route to the high school before being relieved of her responsibilities. The school district, along with notifying the Ohio Highway Patrol and Mentor Police, has launched a thorough investigation into the matter.

Currently, the former bus driver is under police investigation, although no charges have been filed yet. The school district has expressed its commitment to student and staff safety, emphasizing the importance of prompt and serious responses to such concerns.
