📰 Medina and Lake County Men Face Charges in $4.2 Million COVID-19 Fraud Scheme

A federal grand jury in Cleveland has indicted two men from Medina and Lake Counties for their involvement in a fraudulent scheme to acquire around $4.2 million in COVID-19 relief funds. Joseph Oloyede, 61, from Medina, and Edward Oluwasanmi, 61, from Willoughby, face charges including conspiracy to commit wire fraud, wire fraud, and money laundering offenses. They allegedly manipulated the SBA's Economic Injury Disaster Loan and Paycheck Protection Program from April 2020 to February 2022, using falsified applications and documentation to secure funds. Oloyede is also accused of filing fraudulent applications on behalf of other co-conspirators, contributing to the total illicit gains.

🥎 Mentor Cardinals' Girls Softball Winning Streak Ends with a 9-5 Loss to North Rangers

The Mentor Cardinals experienced a setback with a 9-5 loss against the North Rangers in a recent game on 04/04. Despite Mentor's earlier victory against Cleveland Heights, North, remembering their previous loss to Mentor in May 2023, came back strong. Mentor's Gabi Dadante shone with two triples and two runs, while Mak Kobetitsch also contributed significantly. For North, Amanda Dobida excelled both as a pitcher and a batter, alongside Alyssa McPeek's perfect on-base performance and Maddie Russo's crucial hits. This game ended Mentor's streak of away wins and enhanced North's home record, setting the stage for their upcoming games against Shaker Heights and Mayfield, respectively.

🏀 South Carolina and Iowa Advance to the NCAA Women's Finals

South Carolina's Kamilla Cardoso played a pivotal role, despite a knee issue, scoring 22 points and gathering 11 rebounds, to help secure the win against NC State. The win propelled the Gamecocks into the national championship game with a 78-59 victory. South Carolina used a decisive third-quarter surge to establish dominance by outscoring NC State 29-6. This victory marks their undefeated march to the title game, echoing UConn's 2016 record. The team, motivated by last season's semifinal defeat, showed unwavering focus and determination, with standout performances not only from Cardoso but also from players like Raven Johnson and Ashlyn Watkins.

The game of the UConn Huskies vs. the Iowa Hawkeyes was a close battle to the end. What a nail bitter!! However, Iowa pulled it out in the end by a score of 71-69. Caitlyn Clark finished with 21 points, 9 rebounds and 7 assists. Caitlyn did not have a great shooting night but did enough to get the job done. Hannah Stuelke was the leading scorer for Iowa with 23 points.
