📰 Heroic Dogs Alert Family to Mentor House Blaze, Man Hospitalized

In the early hours of a quiet Wednesday, the Mentor community was jolted awake as fire crews rushed to a residence on Clifton Court following reports of a menacing blaze. With resources pooled from four fire stations and additional support from Mentor-on-the-Lake's department, first responders arrived to find the back of a split-level home engulfed in flames. Quick to confirm the safety of all occupants, the teams launched an intensive attack to quell the fire and clear the smoke.

A 31-year-old man was swept off to hospital care for smoke inhalation, while other residents, having evacuated in time, received on-site medical checks. Notably, the family's dogs provided an early alert, outpacing the smoke detectors in warning the inhabitants. Amidst the turmoil, a cat was also rescued, highlighting the firefighters' commitment to saving all lives, big or small.

The incident left the home significantly damaged, sparking an investigation by the Mentor Fire Investigation Unit to unearth the cause. This event serves as a poignant reminder of the critical role smoke detectors play in home safety, especially underscored by the recent daylight saving time change.
