🏁Lakewood High Students Make a Splash in Physics-Inspired Boat Race

The 22nd Annual Lakewood High School Physics Cardboard Boat Regatta brought together over 100 students in a creative and educational competition. Using physics principles, teams built 31 homemade boats from cardboard and tape, racing them across a pool. The event, supported by local businesses, emphasized learning through practical application, teamwork, and problem-solving, culminating in an unexpected victory for a team featured in a local news segment.

LHS physics teacher Dave Hille expressed satisfaction with the event's outcome, highlighting the broader educational benefits of problem-solving and collaboration that the regatta promoted.

📰 Mentor Hospital: Prototype for Cleveland Clinic’s Efficient “Hospital of the Future”

We have first class healthcare right here in our own backyard in Mentor, Ohio.
As most of you I’m sure know, the Cleveland Clinic has broadened its healthcare network with the inauguration of the Cleveland Clinic Mentor Hospital in Mentor, Ohio, its first in Lake County. The new facility has been operational since July 2023 and was established to deliver comprehensive local healthcare, featuring the area's initial emergency department, emphasizing the clinic's commitment to accessible care. With a strategic approach to service provision, Mentor Hospital offers specialized services, notably in cardiology and orthopedics, without replicating the full range of services of the larger Cleveland Clinic Hillcrest Hospital.

But did you know that the facility's design, a collaborative endeavor with Bostwick Design Partnership, incorporates Lean design principles and adheres to FGI standards, focusing on efficiency and cost-effectiveness?

Deciding what was essential to Mentor Hospital’s relatively small footprint required an efficient approach that leveraged Lean design. Cleveland Clinic and its in-house design team engaged Bostwick Design Partnership (Cleveland) for medical planning, architecture, interior design, and team development. Together, they developed a prototype for Cleveland Clinic’s efficient “hospital of the future.”

Mentor Hospital's infrastructure includes 34 inpatient rooms, 19 emergency beds, and four operating rooms, supported by a streamlined operational link with Hillcrest Hospital for shared resources and leadership. This innovative model, a prototype for future emphasizing essential services and efficient design, sets a precedent for future healthcare facilities within the Cleveland Clinic network, aiming to enhance patient care while optimizing resource utilization.
