🥽 Splash Pad Set to Replace 60-Year-Old Pool at Mentor's Garfield Park

The historic pool at Eleanor B. Garfield Park, after decades of service and a prolonged closure since 2020 due to COVID-19 and staffing issues, is being replaced with a splash pad. A consultation revealed the pool's outdated condition, leading to the decision for a more sustainable, attendance-boosting feature that doesn't require lifeguards. This move aims to provide a unique recreational experience while addressing the changing needs of the Mentor community. Demolition and construction plans are in place, with the new facility expected to be operational by 2025.

The City of Mentor, Ohio, is set to apply for Community Development Block Grant funds from HUD to support housing rehabilitation for low and moderate-income families, focusing on essential repairs. The application, due by February 20, 2024, will finance projects including roof and plumbing repairs through the Western Reserve Community Development Corporation. The initiative will undergo a two-tier review process and is exempt from NEPA requirements, but an Environmental Review Record is available for public review. With a budget of up to $60,000, the project aims to rehabilitate four to seven homes. Public comments on the ERR are invited until February 16, 2024, as the city moves forward with HUD’s certification and funding process.
