🗞️ Lake County Gears Up for Solar Eclipse with Special Grants for Local Events

As the total solar eclipse approaches on April 8, the Lake County Visitors Bureau is making a unique move to energize local engagement. Spearheaded by Executive Director Neil Stein, the bureau is offering financial support for eclipse-related events. This initiative is not just a response to the expected influx of out-of-town visitors but also a strategic move to amplify local excitement and participation.

The Lake County Visitors Bureau is actively preparing for the upcoming total solar eclipse by offering grants to its members who host related events. The bureau has allocated $10,000 for this initiative, allowing members to apply for a $500 grant for single-day events or up to $1,000 for multi-day events. Neil Stein, the Executive Director, emphasizes the bureau's role in promoting tourism and hopes these events will attract visitors and encourage future visits. Several significant viewing events are already planned across the county, with expectations of more to come, especially from the local wineries.

🌫️ From Canada to Mexico: Dense Fog Blankets Vast Swaths of the U.S.

Thursday marked a day of widespread dense fog, not just in Northeast Ohio but across a vast area of the United States. The National Weather Service issued fog advisories that affected 28 states, encompassing an area where about 100 million people reside. This atmospheric condition led to numerous schools in Northeast Ohio delaying their opening times due to the thick fog.

The fog advisory extended well beyond Cleveland, covering a vast stretch of the country from the Canadian border down to the Mexican border, and spanning from east of the Rocky Mountains all the way to New York City.

The fog on Thursday was largely attributed to milder air moving over areas with widespread snow cover, a consequence of the recent Arctic blast.
