❄️ Snowstorm Briefly Shuts Down Cleveland Airport; Minor Flight Disruptions Reported

The airport experienced a temporary shutdown due to the weather, with all runways closed from 3 AM to 5 AM on Friday. Despite this, the airport managed to avoid major disruptions, as no commercial flights were diverted during the closure. However, one charter flight was redirected to Detroit before eventually arriving in Cleveland.

In response to inquiries about the impact of this snowstorm on flight operations, airport spokesperson Michele Dynia acknowledged some minor delays and cancellations, which she noted were not unusual for such weather events. Dynia pointed out that the storm's impact extended beyond Cleveland, affecting the East Coast as well, thus influencing flights at other airports too.

The airport confirmed that all of its snow-clearing equipment was operational, except for one plow that was out of service. The situation reflects the broader challenges of managing airport operations during severe winter weather.

📈 Successful 2023 for Lake County Investments Under Treasurer Zuren's Leadership

Lake County Treasurer Michael Zuren announced a successful 2023 investment year with returns over $15.2 million, attributing this to rising interest rates and a strategic shift in investments. The county saw a significant increase from previous years' returns, focusing on maximizing returns within policy guidelines. Zuren's leadership and collaborative approach with advisors and committees have positioned the county's investment portfolio for continued success.

A remarkably successful year for the county's investments, with returns exceeding $15.2 million. This significant increase in investment income, rising from $3.1 million in 2022 and $1.5 million in 2021, is attributed to a combination of market factors, notably rising interest rates, and an aggressive investment strategy.

🚨 False Facebook Messages Scam Users for Personal Information, Experts Warn

A recent investigation by VERIFY has unveiled a phishing scam circulating on Facebook, falsely threatening users with account disablement if they don't provide personal information. The scam message, posing as an official Facebook notification, falsely claims violations of sharing misleading content or using someone else’s name, and directs users to a fraudulent link. Experts from the Better Business Bureau and Malwarebytes have confirmed that these messages are not from Facebook but are phishing attempts to harvest personal data. Facebook advises users to be cautious of such scams, recommending practices like avoiding suspicious links, enabling two-factor authentication, and not sharing sensitive information like passwords. The company also provides resources for reporting suspicious activities and securing accounts against such fraudulent activities.

🎓 Financial Strain Hits Lake Erie College: Forbearance Agreement Marks Latest Challenge

In the educational landscape of northeast Ohio, financial instability has struck yet another institution. Lake Erie College, located in Painesville, approximately 30 miles from Cleveland, finds itself grappling with fiscal challenges. The college recently entered into a forbearance agreement with its lenders, a response to not meeting specific financial obligations linked to its municipal bonds, used for funding campus facilities improvements.

This situation emerged as the college failed to maintain a required financial ratio, essential for demonstrating its capacity to cover debts. Additionally, the college's liquidity was alarmingly low, with only seven days' worth of cash reserves, significantly short of the 25-day minimum stipulated in its bond agreement. This inability to meet the bond covenants has led to a situation classified as a default event.

The financial woes of Lake Erie College are not isolated. The region has witnessed similar struggles in other educational institutions. Lakeland Community College and Baldwin-Wallace University, both in the vicinity of Cleveland, have recently reported substantial deficits, prompting them to undertake significant budgetary reductions.

🏀 From Injury to Victory: Coode and Hawley Shine in Mentor's Dominant Win

In a heartening senior night victory, the Mentor girls basketball team defeated Perry with a score of 53-22. Key players Izzy Coode and Maggie Hawley, who both overcame significant injuries, played pivotal roles in the win. Coode led the game with 10 points, while Hawley, who had just recovered from a torn ACL and a meniscus tear, contributed five points. The victory was particularly significant for the team as it matched last year's win total, elevating their record to 10-5. Mentor's defense was a standout, effectively disrupting Perry's gameplay and contributing to a long stretch where Perry was held without a field goal. The team's coach, James Hrusovsky, and Perry's coach, Roy Infalvi Jr., both highlighted the impact of Mentor's defensive strategy on the game's outcome. Looking forward, Mentor faces Brunswick, while Perry aims for a comeback against Chagrin Falls in their respective conference games.
