🥽 Summer Adventures Await: Register for Mentor's 2024 Summer Camps Starting February

The City of Mentor is excited to announce that registration for their 2024 Summer Camps will begin soon, with residents able to sign up starting Thursday, February 1st, and non-residents from Monday, February 5th. Given the popularity of these camps and the limited availability of spaces, early registration is highly recommended.

Mentor Recreation's summer camps offer a diverse range of activities suitable for various interests. These include traditional day camps, sports camps, and discovery camps. Children will have opportunities to engage in a wide array of activities such as swimming, skating, going on exciting field trips, improving basketball skills, learning fencing, and indulging in creative pursuits like crafting, drawing, painting, and cooking. These camps promise not just learning and skill development but also a lot of fun!

The camps are managed by a dedicated and well-trained staff comprising adults and college students who are passionate about working with young people. This ensures a safe, educational, and enjoyable environment for all campers.

Residents should keep an eye out for the Mentor Summer Camp Guide, which will be arriving in mailboxes by mid-January. This guide will provide all the necessary information for registering your child for a summer filled with fun and adventure in 2024.

📈 Ohio's Lake and Ashtabula Counties Witness Yet Another Early Morning Earthquake

Residents of Lake and Ashtabula Counties in Ohio experienced a light earthquake early Friday morning, marking the second such event in Madison in less than a week and at least the fifth since late August. The United States Geological Survey reported the latest earthquake in Madison as having a magnitude of 2.6, occurring at 3:47 a.m. Its just the latest in a series of seismic activities in the area.

Local businesses, like Debonné Vineyards, are concerned about the frequency of these events. Seismologists attribute these quakes to natural tectonic movements. The ODNR and USGS continue to monitor the situation closely.

📣 Stay Informed: Mentor City Council and BZA Meetings on January 9, Live Broadcast Available

The Mentor City Council is set to convene for their biannual reorganization meeting on Tuesday, January 9, 2024, at 7:30 PM. This meeting will take place in the council chambers, situated on the third floor of the Mentor Municipal Center. These council meetings are notable for their accessibility to the public, both in person and through various media channels. The proceedings will be broadcast live on the Mentor Channel, available on Spectrum 1024 and U-Verse 99. Additionally, for those preferring digital streaming, the meeting can be accessed via the Mentor app, compatible with ROKU, Apple, Android, and Amazon Fire devices. For those unable to attend or watch live, the meetings will be rebroadcast several times during the following week.

In a similar vein, the Mentor Board of Building & Zoning Appeals (BZA) will also hold a meeting on the same day. Their meeting is scheduled earlier, at 6:00 PM, and will be held in the same location as the City Council meeting. Like the council meetings, the BZA meeting is open to the public, offering residents an opportunity to stay informed and involved in local governance matters. However, it's important to note that BZA meetings are not televised.

🏀 Biddell Leads Mentor to Dominant Win Against Euclid

The Mentor Cardinals, fresh from a successful run at the Arby’s Classic Tournament, secured a decisive 104-70 victory over GCC rival Euclid, showcasing a sharp focus on defense and a high-scoring offense. Led by senior Matthew Biddell's 32 points, the Cardinals demonstrated their depth and strategic prowess. Despite Euclid's efforts, led by Thai Duncan and Jerome Davis-Gayle, they struggled against Mentor's robust defense and offensive runs.

The Mentor Cardinals displayed strong defense and their usual offensive firepower in a commanding 104-70 win over Greater Cleveland Conference rival Euclid. The Cardinals, now standing at 5-3 overall and 3-0 in the GCC.

Euclid, struggling at 2-7 and 0-4 in the GCC, faced difficulties against Mentor's press. Despite this, they managed to keep the game from escalating further, led by junior Thai Duncan's 24 points and sophomore Jerome Davis-Gayle's double-double.

Mentor coach Bob Krizancic emphasized the team's growth in defensive quickness and intelligence, particularly after their experience in Tennessee against high-caliber teams. He also highlighted the importance of depth in their fast-paced style of play.

🏀 Mitchell's 26 Points Lead Cavs to Victory Over Wizards in Impressive Team Performance

The Cleveland Cavaliers triumphed over the Washington Wizards with a 114-90 victory, led by Donovan Mitchell's 26 points and Jarrett Allen's sixth consecutive double-double. Despite missing key players due to injuries, the Cavaliers displayed strong teamwork and strategic play, with contributions from Caris LeVert and Georges Niang. The Wizards, led by Tyus Jones, struggled defensively, continuing a trend of high opponent scores.
