🚨 Tanker Carrying East Palestine Cleanup Waste Overturns in Geauga

A hazardous waste tanker truck from East Palestine's cleanup overturned in Geauga County, causing a hazardous waste spill and utility damage. Emergency teams, including the Chagrin Southeast Regional Hazmat team, have contained the spill and are undertaking extensive cleanup and repair operations. The driver was treated for injuries, and multiple agencies are involved in the response and restoration process.

The incident occurred early on Tuesday at 5:17 a.m. at the intersection of Chagrin Mills Road and Chillicothe Road. Russell fire officials were first on the scene, where they found a dual-axel tanker lying on its side.

The accident caused significant damage, including downed utility lines and a pole. The Chagrin Southeast Regional Hazmat team was called in due to a diesel fuel spill from the crash, which they successfully contained. The tanker truck was transporting approximately 5,000 gallons of hazardous waste from the East Palestine cleanup, following a toxic train derailment 11 months prior. The crash resulted in a spill of around 200 gallons of diesel fuel and four gallons of wastewater.

The truck driver received on-scene medical treatment and was then transported to Cleveland Clinic Hillcrest Hospital by Russell Township EMS.

⛅ Lack of Sunshine in Northeast Ohio Highlights Region's Typical Winter Weather

Have you noticed all the clouds? Northeast Ohio is experiencing a notably cloudy period, with only five mostly sunny days in Cleveland since Thanksgiving. This is consistent with the region's climate, as cities near the Great Lakes often experience frequent cloudy weather. In fact, over the past three years the number of sunny days during the same period ranged between five and seven. However, the 2019/2020 season was notably sunnier, with 13 mostly sunny days.

While some winters are cloudier than others, the city has experienced extreme stretches of cloudiness in the past, with records showing more than 60 consecutive days without a mostly sunny day in winter.
