🏀 Mentor High Boys Basketball Falls in Arby's Classic Semifinal, Gains Valuable Experience

The Mentor boys basketball team's journey in the Arby’s Classic tournament ended in the semifinals after a loss to Kell (Georgia), with a final score of 93-67 on December 29. Despite this, Coach Bob Krizancic views the experience as invaluable for the team. The tournament, held in Bristol, Tennessee, provided Mentor with six days of bonding, practice, and competition against some of the nation's top high school teams.

Ian Ioppolo led Mentor with an impressive performance, scoring 24 points, including five 3-pointers, and grabbing 11 rebounds. Matt Biddell also contributed significantly with 10 points, 10 rebounds, and five assists. However, the team struggled with their shooting, hitting only 38% from the field and 30% from the three-point range.

Kell, showcasing a well-rounded team effort, had five players scoring in double figures. C.J. Brown topped their scoring with 25 points, along with five rebounds and five steals.

Despite the defeat, Krizancic remains optimistic, believing that participating in the tournament and competing for third place will greatly benefit the team upon their return to Northeast Ohio.

Mentor is scheduled to play Mater Lakes (Florida) in the third-place game on December 30 at 6 p.m., while Kell will face Jackson-Reed in the championship game later that evening.
