🍺 Great Lakes Brewing Co. Eyes Expansion in Northeast Ohio, Ohio City Brewpub to Remain Open

Great Lakes Brewing Company, a renowned brewery based in Cleveland, has announced their plans to explore expansion opportunities within Northeast Ohio. Despite this growth, they have committed to continuing operations at their historic Ohio City brewpub and gift shop indefinitely.

The company is currently evaluating potential sites for a new consolidated production facility in the Greater Cleveland area. Among the considered locations are Avon and the Scranton Peninsula in Cleveland's Flats. This move aims to address the challenges posed by the current building, which, while historic and charming, limits operational efficiency, output, and quality control.

Mark King, CEO of Great Lakes Brewing Company, emphasized the need for a modernized operation to maintain the high quality of their beverages. He highlighted that a larger facility with state-of-the-art amenities is crucial for competitive advantage and to ensure safety and quality for both customers and staff.

This expansion plan is still in the exploratory stage, driven by the evident need for more space. The goal is to consolidate all brewing and packaging operations under one roof. In 2020, the brewery had opened a 67,000-square-foot canning facility in Strongsville. Despite its size, Great Lakes Brewing Company was the 18th largest independent U.S. craft brewery by volume in 2022.

The brewery's expansion strategy includes a strong focus on maintaining its local presence in the Greater Cleveland area and continuing the operation of its iconic Ohio City brewpub and gift shop. King reassured that the significance of the brewpub to Ohio City is well understood, and its closure is not being considered. The aim is to keep this special place operational while offering new, quality products and experiences at the new production facility.

Apple Watch Series 9 and Ultra 2 Back on Sale After Court Overturns Import Ban

Apple Watch Series 9 and Ultra 2 are back on sale after a federal appeals court temporarily blocked an import ban amid a patent dispute. The controversy centered around a complaint by Masimo and Cercacor Laboratories accusing Apple of patent infringement. Despite the Biden administration upholding the ITC's decision, Apple's legal action led to the lifting of the ban, making these models available in U.S. stores and online.

🚨 High-Speed Pursuit in Lake County Leads to Crash, Search for Suspects Continues

On Christmas Eve morning, the Lake County Sheriff's Office was engaged in a high-speed pursuit involving a white SUV implicated in a series of attempted vehicle break-ins. The incident began when officers responded to a call on Riverside Drive about two men attempting to enter unlocked vehicles.

The deputies spotted the vehicle speeding and initiated a chase as it fled towards Painesville City. During the pursuit, one suspect exited the SUV and escaped on foot. The chase continued onto Route 2 westbound, with another deputy joining in. However, due to challenging road conditions, the deputies decided to terminate the pursuit and instead deployed spike strips, resulting in the SUV crashing into a signpost on Lloyd Road in Wickliffe.

The suspect fled from the crashed vehicle, which was later discovered to have been stolen from North Ridgeville. Inside the SUV, authorities found a firearm, several credit cards, and wrapped presents. Lt. Zach Robos from the Lake County Sheriff's Office remarked on the trend of criminals finding easy targets during the holiday season, exploiting the haste and carelessness of residents in securing their vehicles.

Fortunately, all the stolen items recovered from the SUV were returned to their rightful owners. Lt. Robos urged residents to remain vigilant, lock their vehicles, and avoid leaving valuables inside.

Authorities are now investigating the suspects' activities in Madison, Perry, and Painesville, and are calling on residents to check their surveillance footage to aid the investigation. The suspects remain at large, and the Lake County Sheriff's Office is appealing to the public for any information regarding their whereabouts.

🏈 Browns Clinch!
Cleveland Celebrates as Browns Clinch Playoff Spot in Thrilling 37-20 Win

The Cleveland Browns have clinched a playoff berth in the 2023 NFL season, marking their first appearance since the 2020 season, following a decisive 37-20 victory over the Jets on Thursday Night Football. This achievement comes as a testament to the team's resilience and adaptability in the face of adversity, including overcoming numerous season-ending injuries to key players.

Throughout the season, the Browns have exemplified a "next man up" mentality, adapting and thriving despite challenges. Notably, they became one of only eight teams since 1961 to have four quarterbacks win a game as starters in a single season. They've also managed to stay competitive despite losing three tackles, their star running back, and key defensive players.

Standing at 11-5 with one game remaining in the regular season, the Browns have shown remarkable tenacity and skill, ensuring another appearance in the playoffs.

Key Moments:

  • First Half Offensive Clinic: The Browns dominated offensively in the first half, showcasing their strength despite being held scoreless in the third quarter and enduring a turnover in the fourth.

  • Defensive Resilience: Following a fumble by Pierre Strong in the fourth quarter, the Browns' defense effectively limited the Jets to a field goal and subsequently forced a turnover on downs.

  • Blocked Field Goal Attempt: Defensive tackle Shelby Harris made a significant play by blocking a Jets' field goal attempt, preventing additional points against the Browns.

  • Defensive Highlights: Key tackles by Za'Darius Smith and a pick-six by Ronnie Hickman further exemplified the Browns' defensive prowess.

  • Offensive Outburst: Joe Flacco's 50-yard touchdown pass to Jerome Ford, Kareem Hunt's 7-yard touchdown run and David Njoku’s dominant first quarter display highlighted the team's offensive dominance, contributing to their highest-scoring first half in four years.
