State authorities have determined that six recent fires in Richmond Heights, Willoughby Hills, and Beachwood, occurring between March 13 and March 24, were intentionally set and are related. These findings were released by the Ohio Department of Commerce Division of State Fire Marshalโ€™s Fire and Explosion Investigation Bureau.

The series of arsons began with a fire in a vacant field on Loganberry Drive in Richmond Heights. Over the following ten days, five vehicles were also set ablaze across the three mentioned cities. Fortunately, there have been no reported injuries from these incidents.

Investigators are now calling on the public to assist by providing any photos or videos related to the fires, including footage from home security systems or doorbell cameras. The public is also encouraged to report any other fires under similar conditions that may have occurred during this period.

The investigation is a collaborative effort involving the State Fire Marshal, the sheriffs of Cuyahoga and Lake Counties, and local police and fire departments from the affected cities. To aid in the investigation, a reward of $5,000 is being offered for information leading to the arrest of those responsible. Tips can be directed to the State Fire Marshalโ€™s tip line at 800-589-2728.

๐ŸŒฌ๏ธ Strong Winds Topple Trees and Cut Power in Northeast Ohio

Credit: Paul Lazuka

On Friday, strong winds wreaked havoc across Northeast Ohio, causing extensive damage and power outages on Friday night. In Concord Township, one resident experienced a significant incident when a pine tree was blown down onto his swimming pool on Girdled Road around 7 p.m. The force of the wind was evident as it toppled numerous trees across various locations.

In Parma Heights, another pine tree succumbed to the wind, crashing onto a fence on Elsetta Avenue. The damage didn't spare urban areas either; Cleveland Heights and Lakewood saw multiple trees uprooted, affecting roads and properties. There are reports of widespread wind damage across the area.

FirstEnergy confirmed that the powerful gusts led to thousands of power outages, predominantly in Cuyahoga, Lorain, and Geauga counties. A Strong Wind Warning remained in effect for several counties including Ashtabula Lakeshore, Cuyahoga, Geauga, Lake, and Lorain until midnight last night urging residents to stay alert.
