🚨 Mentor Police Bust Marijuana Trafficking Operation on State Route 2

A routine traffic stop on state Route 2 in Mentor escalated into a significant drug bust involving three Painesville residents. On February 25, a Mentor police officer halted a vehicle due to an equipment violation. This led to a probable cause search where the authorities discovered 19 bags filled with marijuana-related products, all reportedly purchased in Michigan.

The vehicle's occupants, one aged 19 and the other two aged 18, hail from Painesville. They were apprehended and now face serious charges including marijuana trafficking, possession of marijuana, complicity, and possession of criminal tools. This incident highlights the vigilant efforts of the Mentor police in combating drug-related offenses.

📰 Mentor City Council Nears Decision to Declare Painesville Land as Conservation Area

Mentor City Council is poised to designate 215 acres of land it owns in Painesville as a conservation area, a move that's stirring controversy with Painesville officials who favor development on the site. Despite a lack of developer interest, Mentor aims to switch the land's zoning from commercial to conservation, clarifying that this doesn't involve a sale to a conservation entity. The decision, nearing a final vote, underscores a divide between the cities on the land's future, with Mentor maintaining flexibility for potential future development and Painesville expressing traffic and collaboration concerns.

Aside from the future of the land, the cities differ on how Mentor obtained it in 2019. According to the official government site for Painesville, Mentor was given the land by the previous owners after they failed to pay to insert a turn lane at Diamond Center Drive. Mentor paid $800,000 to put in the turn lane and was given the land by Forest City so that the company would not have to pay the city back for the lane. Krueger, however, said Painesville was also offered the land after the company refused to pay for the lane. “Painesville had the same option. They could have the land or Mentor could have the land, but it came with about a $400,000 price tag, which for 215 acres is nothing. Painesville said they didn’t want it. So we said, ‘OK, we’ll take it,’” he said.
